4MAT LodeStar Lessons

So, what is a 4MAT LodeStar Lesson?

4MAT LodeStar lessons are those that have been selected by About Learning as having a high level of excellence in following the 4MAT Design Structure. Any teacher or instructor who has their 4MAT design selected for this status should be very proud of this difficult accomplishment.

A Lodestar is a star that guides someone in their travels and Lodestar lessons act in this same way - as an inspiration or guide to other teachers attempting to master the 4MAT Learning Method.

Every 4MAT Lodestar is coached by a master 4MAT Trainer to ensure its integrity. These lessons have a special designation in 4MATION software that allows them to be easily found via our search features. About Learning has designated 20 lessons as 4MAT Lodestar lessons with more lessons being added each month.

The criteria we use for evaluate and select 4MAT Wheels as Lodestars are as follows:

• All Eight steps of the 4MAT Cycle are complete.
• The Design Framework is complete, including the concept, bridge, and objectives.
• The Unit Basics are complete.
• The Five Points of Assessment section is complete.
• Any special materials needed for the lesson or unit are included as attachments.
• The standards covered in the lesson are attached.
• The steps of the Wizard are complete

Particular attention will be paid to...

• how the concept chosen reflects the essence of the content
• how the teaching activity chosen for the Quadrant Two, Right Mode step truly images
• the intended outcome of the unit
• how the outcome, the intended student learning results, moves the learning into the students' real lives, and if and how the outcome learning benefits the community
